My gerbils keep sleeping..?
I have two gerbils. I just got them yesterday, and they were seriously hyper; They kept running around their cage, being all squirmy, like I expected.
But my Gerbil Chihiro has been sleeping a lot today. My other gerbil Fang lays her head on Chihiro, but isn’t sleeping. It seems like Fang is more on watch, and letting Chihiro sleep.
But is this normal?! Is Chihiro sick?
They’re eating fine. They have fresh water, CareFresh bedding, hideaways..
But their food bowl is really big, its a lizard water bowl. They’re eating whenever they are awake.
Is Chihiro okay?
I got them at Petsmart, and all of them looked fine and healthy.
**The reason I mentioned the bowl is because thats where they are laying in..
Chihiro will wake up whenever I peer into the glass. Are they just nervous?
I havent been very social with them, since I just got them, and I want them to get use to their surroundings..
Oh, and also, I have yet to see them drink. > < I know they dont drink a lot, since they are desert animals, but what should I do? I havent noticed any water missing when I go to change the water in the water bottle. Should I be worried about that, too?
If so, how should I get them to drink ther water…?
Uhm no, I really doubt they’re hibernating.
It takes gerbils to be under 40 degrees to hibernate, and I maintain 65 degrees in my house..
I hope they’re just getting use to their surroundings. Ima wait for some gerbil owners to post.
well theyre probably just getting used to their environment or something. just leave them alone for the night and see if they are better.

they could be hibernating if the temperatures too low or too high, or they could just be able to get right with their surroundings, since u just got them yesterday

Your gerbils are getting used to their surroundings! When I got my two gerbils we had a day of them running about, scratching, digging and such. The next day they settled and slept the whole day and were actives during the night. After that they got used to a daily routine, now they have periods of sleeping and periods of being awake, however they mostly sleep during the night, and have naps in the day.
As for them lying on each other, this is completely normal! My two do the same, my black one (streak) will lie on the bedding while his brother (stripe, dark sand coloured) while lie on top of him and vice vica.
You are correct, gerbils don’t drink a lot, and it’s normal for the gravity bottle to look like if it hasn’t been touched for a couple of days, you’re doing a good job changing it everyday, and i’m assuming changing the food everyday as well. They may be a little nervous around you, and there’s a way to get round that!
To get around their nervousness give them treats every now and then, like sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. They love this, and will get used to you. Then you can try and method called play time in the bath tub, and this means taking them to your bath tub (must be clean and dry) sitting in it and then letting them run about in it with you sitting in it, they will soon climb on you.
Oh and if you hear squeaking later on, this is normal! Gerbils squeak, it means they’re just vocal, mine were squeaking all the time I wrote this.
